Admissions Criteria
Overview
Admissions Criteria explain how applications are assessed and how decisions are made.
These criteria ensure that the College admits students who are ready to thrive academically, socially, and personally.
1) Assessment
The decision to offer a place is made by the Head of School, supported by the Head of College, the Director of Admissions & Marketing, and the Head of Admissions.
Admission is based on a comprehensive evaluation of each applicant, including:
- Academic assessments appropriate to the year group applied for
- English proficiency
- Previous school records
- Teacher recommendations
- Diagnostic testing to identify any special learning needs
- Interviews, which may be conducted for any year group
These factors help the College understand each applicant’s readiness and potential for success at Dulwich College (Singapore).
2) Academic Readiness
Applicants are expected to demonstrate the academic ability required to access the curriculum appropriate to their age and year group.
Academic selection may include previous school reports and assessment results.
3) English Proficiency (Assessment)
Applicants are assessed to ensure they have the level of English required to engage fully with the curriculum and school life.
This is separate from the hard requirement listed under Eligibility.
4) Other Supporting Factors
Where applicable, the College may consider:
- Teacher recommendations or reference letters
- Interviews
- Special talents, achievements, or potential (academic, artistic, sports, leadership)
5) Applicant Priority
Where possible, a completed application must be submitted in advance of the application deadlines communicated in the How to Apply page. An applicant will then be placed in the applicant pool to be considered for admission to the College.
Applications should be submitted no more than 18 months prior to an applicant’s expected enrolment date. Assessments will be conducted in the 12 months preceding the expected enrolment date.
Once an application is completed, it will be reviewed to determine whether the applicant has met our entry requirements. Applicants who apply by 31 October and who meet entry requirements may receive an early offer in November, at the discretion of the College. Priority will be given to applicants as follows:
- Holder of a Guaranteed Placement Right
- A child of a full-time faculty member
- A child transferring from Dulwich College or a Dulwich College International school
- A sibling of a current student
- The child of an Old Alleynian (OA) or International Old Alleynian (IOA)
The majority of applicants will receive the outcome of their application in March. Applicants who have not been offered a place will be notified. The College is not under any obligation to release the results of the assessment tests. Unsuccessful applicants may reapply the following year.
There will be a number of applicants who meet the level for academic selection but who do not receive an offer in March due to lack of guaranteed availability at that time. In this instance, the applicants will be rolled over for admission in the following academic year and will receive an offer as and when places become available in the meantime. Any applicants who are rolled over may be asked to provide updated documentation to ensure their application remains up to date.
Successful applicants can be rolled over for a maximum of one year and if a place is not offered by the end of the second academic year, then applicants will be asked to reapply and sit a reassessment.
