College Christmas Cheer at Dulwich College (Singapore)

Christmas is always a special time at the College and once again this December, students, staff and parents have been embracing the festive spirit. Across DUCKS, Junior School and Senior School we have seen students hard at work, rehearsing and performing, as well as simply celebrating what truly is the most wonderful time.

Christmas kicked off in the College with the annual Friends of Dulwich Christmas Fair where Santa and his elves welcomed hundreds of families to a transformed College. We hosted a festive lunch with Santa in the dining hall and then visitors enjoyed a range of Christmas themed activities, from shopping and eating, to fun and games for all the family; a magical Sunday afternoon. Our community raised $4,000 each for our four charitable partners; a much-appreciated and needed gift to these organisations this holiday season.

Moving to performing arts, DUCKS have the honour each year of presenting the traditional favourite, the Nativity, and classrooms have been abuzz with preparations. All DUCKS students participate, with each year group presenting their take on the classic Christmas story in our state-of-the-art Alleyn Theatre. Over 160 Reception students presented our largest Nativity performance, sharing tales behind traditional decorations hung on the Christmas tree, while our youngest entertainers in Nursery revealed an innovative spin on a classic Christmas musical in their production of Twelve Days of Christmas. Year 2 students took a comedic approach this year with a Christmas themed game-show experience filled with song, dance and humour.

Junior School students recognised Christmas with drama performances themed to the classic song Twelve Days of Christmas. Classes showcased a historical exploration of Christmas tales, one including World War One soldiers playing football during a Christmas ceasefire, resonating a spirit of peace and respect with a full audience of parents and Junior School peers.

In a first, we brought students together across all schools to present the Whole College Christmas Concert to a packed house of over 750 students, parents and staff, with The Alleyn Theatre brought to life in a magical evening of musical performances delivered by our student orchestras, swing bands and our wonderful pipe organ.

Beyond the performing arts events, students across the College have made the weeks leading up to Christmas a fun and festive event through Christmas parties where parents were invited to join the classroom, to Christmas lunches with friends in our dining rooms, complete with crackers, gingerbread men and mince pies.

Celebrations in December were made all the more special through the festive decorations set up across the College by our hard-working Friends of Dulwich parents, adorning four magnificent fir trees with sparkling decorations. More importantly underneath one of these trees lay hundreds of gift-wrapped boxes, filled with gifts, toiletries and home essentials which have been collated by our students and families across the College to share across the Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang Care Home communities.

On behalf of the community at Dulwich College (Singapore), we wish everyone a Happy Christmas and promise of a prosperous new year ahead!
