DUCKS Learning Bugs Guide Students on Their Global Citizenship Journey
In DUCKS, our youngest learners are already on their journey to becoming compassionate and responsible global citizens. Through meaningful community engagement, they are developing an early understanding of positive impact on people and the world around them. However, true active citizenship is not just about what we gain, but how we contribute in meaningful ways. Our partnerships are built on reciprocity, ensuring interactions benefit both our students and the communities we engage with.
Building Intercultural Understanding and Inclusion with Ding Bang the Dragonfly
Our Year 1 and Year 2 students developed Intercultural Understanding through PE sessions with students from Winstedt School, PCF Sparkletots Kindergarten, and MK Princess Elizabeth School. Ding Bang the Dragonfly teaches us to celebrate cultures and diversity, and these shared experiences support all the children in making friends, showing tolerance, and appreciating similarities and differences. More than play, these sessions build lasting connections across school communities.
Wellbeing and Community Appreciation with Ling the Ladybird
Ling the Ladybird reminds us that caring for others helps create a balanced and supportive environment. Our Year 2 students embraced this by showing appreciation to JLL and Sodexo staff, inviting them to a Nativity rehearsal and festive classroom activity. More than a gesture of gratitude, this strengthened relationships and reinforced belonging and inclusion for all members of our community.
Intergenerational Learning and Social Justice with Satoko the Spider
Satoko the Spider helps us understand that everyone is good at something and that we thrive when we respect and uphold the rights of others. Our Toddler and Nursery children built ongoing connections with the NTUC Health Active Aging Centre (Bukit Batok), engaging in storytelling, cookie decorating, and Christmas celebrations. These experiences foster mutual joy, empathy, and companionship, benefiting both young and old. This ongoing partnership, is not just about one-off visits, but the building of connections. As part of DUCKS Sports Week, the PE Department extended this spirit of connection by welcoming the Bukit Batok Active Ageing Group for a morning of collaborative activities with Year 2 Global Guardians, Student Council members, and the Nursery and Reception students. Anya the Ant teaches us about teamwork and inclusion, and this event showcased how all generations have something valuable to contribute.
Sustainability and Taking Inspired Action with Brian the Bee
Brian the Bee reminds us to take care of our world, and our Reception students put this into practice by creating handmade Christmas decorations to raise funds. Their efforts culminated in a festive caroling session with SASCO elderly home, reinforcing that true impact happens when we listen to and respond to others’ needs, not just when we act with good intentions.
