Five Minutes of Fame with Theresa Abdullah

Senior School Campus Administrator, Theresa Abdullah

Where else in the world have you lived?

During my university days, I used to live in Hobart, Australia. It was something I had always wanted to do, to explore and live in a new country. One of the wisest decisions I made so far actually, and it was a breath of fresh air. If you have not been to Tasmania, it needs to be on your list!

Tell us about your family?

My family consists of my father, mother, younger brother and aunt, my husband and son. Not forgetting my two cats!

What’s your favourite weekend activity in Singapore?

I enjoy making special breakfasts and dinners for my family on the weekends. I spend most weekends baking or creating new recipes for them to indulge in.

Did you always want to be in education?

No, however, I’ve always found myself in the education sector. I started my career as a trainer in cosmetology, massage techniques, and other spa body treatments. After that, I worked in a couple of private schools before joining Dulwich College (Singapore).

What is your favourite book and who is your favourite author?

When I was younger, I used to be such a bookworm. Enid Blyton was my first love. My favourite genres are thrillers, mysteries and suspense. Since then, I’ve grown to love reading books from authors like Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, John Grisham, Dan Brown, and many more.

Tell us about a hidden talent or a top secret that no one would know about you.

Binge-watching Netflix! But seriously, I am a talented cook and can replicate most dishes effortlessly.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party, dead or alive?

I don’t live with my parents and really miss them the most. I would invite them, and a few of my cousins that I have not met for years - mainly because of the pandemic and its restrictions. The dinner would be a cosy affair with loved ones. Not forgetting my cats!

If we are talking about some very interesting people that I would invite to dinner: Princess Diana, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Sir Stamford Raffles and Ryan Reynolds (just to lighten up the evening)!

What does a typical day at the College look like for you?

It starts off with me checking my emails and calendars. Then the day goes on and it’s troubleshooting, followed by paperwork and daily operations of Senior School. No two days are the same, that is what is interesting about my job. I have so much to learn and explore every day.

Do you have a motto or saying that really resonates with you?

I try to see the best in every opportunity or situation. Some days can be difficult but that is the gift of life, isn't it? To be thankful for everything so that I can have a good night of sleep. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

What would you like your legacy to be?

To give my family the gift of my time.
