Gather in The Greenhouse: A Community Celebration

On Thursday, 30 November, Dulwich College (Singapore) hosted Gather in The Greenhouse: A Community Celebration, where parents, teachers and members of our broader community came together to celebrate the opening of our ground-breaking net-zero energy building. This event followed the official Grand Opening of The Greenhouse on Thursday, 23 November, where we were joined by Guest of Honour Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and the Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration; Her Excellency Kara Owen, the British High Commissioner to Singapore, and other special guests.

Gather in the Greenhouse was a more casual affair, drawing a diverse community including leaders from local and international schools in Singapore, project partners and workers who were involved in the planning and building of The Greenhouse, parent and staff representatives from Dulwich and Education in Motion, and many other friends of the College.

In his welcome speech, Mr Magnus shared “This year, we celebrate our 10th anniversary as a College; a chance for us to Thrive… Our commitment to the next ten years and beyond shines through the daily lives and actions of our teachers, students and parents, who have helped transform The Greenhouse from an idea and a building into a real, living representation of our shared values and dreams for a brighter future.”

Following a ceremonial cake cutting involving Head Students, guests embarked on guided experiential tours where they learned about cutting-edge technology, innovative 21st-century learning spaces, sustainability features and eco-friendly construction that make The Greenhouse unique.

Highlights of the evening included engaging with our energy-generating Kinetic Tiles at The Greenhouse's entrance, where guests participated in our gamified data dashboard illustrating key facts about the Singapore Green Plan 2030. The Working Kitchen transformed into a feast for the eyes as the Sodexo team showcased live cookie decorating. The Design Studio hosted a thrilling Formula One demonstration on a track built by students, emphasising creative prowess.

The Blackbox came alive with an open dance rehearsal, and in the Film and Media Studio was a screening of a series of short films shot and edited by the Film Studies students during our recent Fringe Festival. Guests also explored our bespoke IB Library, Study Rooms and more.

The evening ended at the Rooftop Garden, where the student Jazz Band topped off the festivities. Against the backdrop of live music and scenic views from the 7th floor rooftop, attendees concluded the celebration on a high note.

As we reflect on this memorable night, heartfelt thanks are extended to every individual who contributed to the success of the event. The collective efforts of the community not only brought The Greenhouse to life but also set the stage for a future where 21st century innovation, world-class teaching and learning, and a sustainable mindset come together to achieve our vision of Live Worldwise.
