Behind the Scenes at Google: Our Year 12s Get a Taste of Tech Life

A few weeks ago, our Year 12 Computer Science students had the exciting opportunity to visit Google’s Singapore office. This unique experience allowed them to work on their IB Internal Assessments in a real-world setting that brought their learning to life.

The day was filled with inspiration, hands-on productivity, and a glimpse into the future of technology. One student reflected, “This Google excursion had been greatly insightful and helpful for learning not only Computer Science theory, but its applications and methods in real life too. The perceptive speech by Mr. Patrick Teao displayed amazing execution of powerful technologies such as Project Astra and AR Glasses.

Another added, “I really enjoyed my time at Google, being greatly inspired by the talk about being a technologist and the showcase of the Gemini AI program. This trip has made me even more determined and excited to become a computer scientist in the future.

Beyond the working sessions, students enjoyed a buffet-style lunch at Google’s on-site restaurant, Shiok, as well as entertainment, refreshments, and an energising change of scenery. “The change of environment really helped boost productivity... The IA writing time at Google made me much more efficient as I feel more enthusiastic working in a new environment,” one student shared.

We extend our sincere thanks to the incredible team at Google APAC for their warm hospitality and generous support. Also a big thanks to the Computer Science teachers Colin McAlpine (Head of CS) and Blessy Joseph who helped make this happen for our students. Opportunities like this play a key role in nurturing the next generation of tech innovators!
