Five Minutes of Fame with Asha Devi
Asha Devi - Clock Tower Cafe Barista
Where else in the world have you lived?
I grew up in Malaysia before coming to Singapore for work.
Tell us about your family.
I have a close-knit family, proud to be a single mom of two daughters. The elder one is pursuing her medical education, while my younger girl is studying in a secondary school.
What’s your favourite weekend activity in Singapore?
I usually visit the temple for prayer on the weekends. After that, I head home to do my regular household chores. Occasionally, I make a special lunch or dinner for my family.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I’m passionate about making coffee. And of course, I love to interact with customers – be it parents, teachers, staff, and especially the students!
What is your favourite book, and who is your favourite author?
When I was in high school, I used to read a lot. I can’t say I have a favourite book or author, but I do enjoy a variety of genres.
Tell us about a hidden talent or a top-secret that no one would know about you.
Singing and dancing are my favourite pastime.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party, dead or alive?
I would have a few friends over, but always happy to have my buddies enjoy a meal with me: my two daughters, mother, and father.
What does a typical day at the College look like for you?
The day starts with preparing the Clock Tower Café for our daily operations, and then it’s serving our staff, teachers, parents & students for the rest of our opening hours.
Do you have a motto or saying that really resonates with you?
Never lose hope; nothing in life is impossible.
Do you have a favourite memory from working at Dulwich College (Singapore)?
Working during Founder’s Day is always a memorable experience. I’m hoping we can have a Founder’s Day event again soon.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I would say my two children are my best creations and my legacy.
