Annual Student Leadership Conference 2024 in Xi'an

Recently, 12 of our student leaders from Senior School and Junior School travelled to Xi'an, China, for the annual Student Leadership Conference – a symposium of student leaders from junior to senior ages across our family of schools, including Hochalpines Institut Ftan in Switzerland, Green School Bali and all of our Dulwich International and Dehong schools.

Here is what our Senior School Head Students, Kayla, Ishita, Hana and Hayden had to say about the event:

"Last week, we attended the 2024 Student Leadership Conference hosted by Dehong School in Xi'an. One of the best things about the conference was the strong relationships we developed with the other student leaders. The various engaging activities facilitated by JUMP! guaranteed the creation of a deep sense of community and collaboration, allowing us to share action plans and form connections between our wider school communities."

"We learnt the importance of being an effective leader, and put into action the five leadership models:

• Inspiring a shared vision
• Enabling others to act
• Challenging the process
• Encouraging the heart
• Modelling the way

We reflected on our own initial understanding of these models and how they are already being implemented in our various school systems, for example, through our College Guiding Statements. We then used them to explore specific real-life examples where we discussed potential solutions.

We have come away with a successful action plan that we will implement as soon as possible. We are certain that this will help create a positive impact for change, focusing on listening to the community. An immediate next step upon our return has been to focus on Upstander Week, where we put into effect everything we have learnt with our new series of Dulwich Discussion student forums.”
