Explore performance, choreography and dance appreciation through a range of world dance styles at all levels.

Since 1619 Dulwich College has been a school founded on the principles of performance and how that can help students build bridges to the world. Dance is helping our students in Singapore Live Worldwise and carry on the traditions started by Edward Alleyn.

Dance commenced within the Senior school curriculum in August 2019, and over the past three years has grown to provide all lower senior school students with one lesson of dance each week. We currently run a three-year GCSE Dance course for students in Year 9, 10 and 11, as well as IBDP Dance for our Year 12 and Year 13 students. We are grateful to have the opportunity to assist students in developing their mind-body connection, creativity and resilience in a state of the art dance studio, with full length mirrors, sprung floors and the beautiful view of the Forest School greenery.

All classes are taught by supportive and passionate dance specialists who believe in building confidence in all students to explore performance, choreography and dance appreciation through a range of world dance styles at all levels.

We believe in dance for all students and offer a range of extra-curricular activities including: Rambert Contemporary Grades, Boys Hip Hop & Breaking, Irish Dance, Contemporary Dance, Dance Fusion (incorporating styles such as rock and roll, commercial, hip hop and contemporary) and a multitude of workshops and performance opportunities including: Remembrance Day, FOBISIA Dance Invitational, collaboration with Music concerts, GCSE & IBDP Dance Showcase, Whole College Celebration of Dance, as well as various dance pieces for school events, the Performing Arts productions and musicals.

For students wanting to train and perform at a higher level, we audition for two dance companies at the start of each academic year; Dulwich Dance Company which focuses on classical and contemporary technique, and Rhythm Addiction, a Hip Hop style crew. The future for Dance is bright, with the subject being delivered to all Junior school students by specialist teachers from August 2022, RAD Ballet grades added to the CCA programme and a purpose built space in the new building in 2023.
