Foreign Language Option

In Year 7 all students study a European language (French, German, Spanish) for 2 lessons each week, this is in addition to Mandarin. Students continue learning a European language through Year 8. By the end of year 8, students have the skills and language knowledge they need to make a strong start in their IGCSE language choice in Year 9.

We pitch the Year 7 European Language course at beginners' level. If you already speak a language confidently, we advise you to choose a different language to study.

First Language Programme

If French or Japanese are students' First Language, they can choose to study their First Language in more depth. We offer First Language French and First Language Japanese courses in Year 7 - 11.

The First Language programme is a paid programme, as it is taught by highly experienced native speaking tutors from education centres outside Dulwich College. Tutors and their education centres set their course fees and communicate to you directly once your child is enrolled into the programme. Availability is dependent on class sizes and language programme.

To make your child’s language choice, please complete the ‘Modern Foreign Language Option Form’ included in the checklist of your Admissions Portal account:
