Senior School Music
In Senior School, students engage in a diverse Contemporary and World Music programme including playing guitar, bass and drums, song writing and music production, and use music technology to develop their musical creativity.
Students can explore, experiment, create, produce and perform across a variety of musical styles in a local and global context. Students further hone their leadership skills by joining the Dulwich College (Singapore) Music Society – a student leadership and service programme which gives students experience in organising, producing, and directing student-led music events including: ‘Live’ at the Clocktower’, ‘Battle of the Bands’ and the DCSG House competition.
Throughout the music course, students develop their knowledge and potential as musicians, both personally and collaboratively, through studying the skills of composition, performance and appraisal. The course exposes students to forms, styles and functions of music from a wide range of historical and cultural contexts. Students develop practical and communicative skills, which provide them with the opportunity to engage in music for further study, as well as for lifetime enjoyment. It should be emphasised that the course is geared to all students, from those who are complete beginners, to those who have already developed skills through private tuition. Participation in the school’s music ensembles is recommended, as these are co-curricular and invaluable in the development of musical and life skills.
At Dulwich College (Singapore) we offer students the opportunity to participate in an extensive range of orchestral, instrumental, and choral ensembles as part of the school’s music CCA programme. Our music ensembles exist to ensure that all students can participate in performances of varied repertoire appropriate to their experience and musical preferences. The opportunities to perform to an audience are extensive equipping students with skills that will benefit them in years to come.
