The Bosher Family
Why did you choose DCSG back in 2014?
When we moved from Hong Kong to Singapore in August 2011 the College didn’t yet exist! Initially, our three children (Jack, Katie-Grace and Lucy) joined the Canadian International School, which was also a lovely experience. However, we had heard great things about the Dulwich family and we felt that it would offer a great opportunity in terms of balancing a British school-system education with a truly international experience for us all. Based on that, we decided to sign up for the Dulwich College (Singapore) journey and, after several face-to-face meetings with Mr Magnus (in which we made it clear we were ‘all or nothing’), we were locked in. From day one, we have felt that it was the best decision for us as a family, and we have never looked back – DCSG has definitely been the right school for our family!
In what way has DCSG impacted your family over the years?
During 10+ years, our children have had many favourite and inspiring teachers who have made big and lasting impressions on them. Those teachers have helped shaped our children into the confident and outgoing ‘global citizens’ that they are becoming.
They have had so many fabulous opportunities in Sport, Music, Drama and various school trips (the Year 10 trip to Japan in 2019 was the ‘best trip ever’ according to Jack!), and both Katie and Lucy have been thrilled and honoured to compete in the Dulwich Games in Shanghai, Singapore, Beijing and Yangon over recent years.
Personally, as a parent, I have felt privileged to have been deeply involved as a class representative in both Junior and Senior Schools for the last ten years. Currently, I am the Senior School Representative on the Friends of Dulwich (FoD) parent committee, and I have really enjoyed working with this wonderful group of parents to organise events for our amazing student-community. Long may this relationship between Friends of Dulwich, Dulwich College (Singapore) and the students continue!
What is your proudest moment at DCSG?
There have been many proud moments over the years – whether it has been on the sports field, the stage or successfully passing IGCSE’s and the IBDP. Highlights have been seeing our girls compete at various international Dulwich Games events, however, our proudest moment to date must surely have been to celebrate Jack’s IB Graduation in May 2022. It was the first graduation since the end of COVID-19 restrictions and the first time for several years that parents could freely return to the school. It was a really magical day and both of us, as well as Jack, will always remember Ms Ellis’ talk about “walking through your own door” – very inspiring!
What makes Dulwich special to you?
The College has an open-door policy, which allows and encourages parents to be on campus during school hours. Staff, teachers and support staff alike have always been supportive, helpful and approachable. The work that Friends of Dulwich does in terms of additional activities and opportunities for both parents and students is just another complimentary layer throughout each academic year. Oh, and the Clock Tower Coffee Shop is great place to start the day and meet friends!
Can you describe the sense of community and connection you’ve felt with other Dulwich Families/ Founding Families during your time at the College?
When we first applied to move to Dulwich it was a bit of a leap of faith because the school was nothing more than an attractive architectural image and still far away from the impressive physical site that it is today!
It was hard to visualise what it was actually going to look like on opening day in August 2014, let alone what it has grown in to in the ten years since! Mr Magnus shared his vision from day one that everybody in the DCSG community – but above all students – mattered: we think that ethos has helped to bond deep and lasting respect and friendships between our children and other founding parents.
We are very proud to be part of Dulwich College (Singapore) – it was the best choice we could have made for our family!
