The Hope Family

Why did you choose DCSG back in 2014?

In a way, Dulwich College (Singapore) kind of chose us, as Victoria was part of the Admissions Team and worked alongside Nick Magnus at the United Square office while the school campus was being built. Thinking back though, we would have chosen Dulwich anyway as were drawn to the fact that it was a British independent school and what we were most familiar with.

In what way has DCSG impacted your family over the years?

The College has impacted our whole family in many ways. Often the girls come home excited to share something from their day. It is always great when they feel inspired to try something new because of a special visitor or because of something they did in class with their teacher. Things like doing a beach clean-up voluntarily while on holiday, or asking to join the football team, or writing and illustrating their own book. The grandparents always love to come into school as much as they can when visiting, and their flight dates are often chosen around what events are happening in school. They were incredibly impressed with the Remembrance Day assemblies this year, where the girls were singing and dancing.

What is your proudest moment at DCSG?

There have been a few proud moments, including seeing our youngest, Penelope, as a fantastic Rudolph in the nursery nativity. For Winnie, it has to be seeing her sing a solo in the Christmas Concert in 2022. Seeing your children smiling and having a brilliant time performing with their friends on stage in a huge theatre definitely makes you a proud parent.

What makes Dulwich special to you?

The fact that both girls are so happy to go to school every day speaks volumes about what a special place it is. The numerous opportunities and varied experiences that they have are incredible and we feel very lucky to have our children there.

Can you describe the sense of community and connection you've felt with other Dulwich Families/Founding Families during your time at the College?

There’s definitely a special bond between the families of our eldest daughter Winnie’s nursery class. We still call ourselves the “Doves” parents and have a few WhatsApp groups carrying the same name for when we organise get togethers. The bond continues with families who have since left Singapore for both the parents and the children, despite any changes in geography and time-zones. Every summer we catch up with old Dulwich friends in the UK.
